About Alice's Curtains + Blinds

Fabric Glacier, Wool

Feel Vintage

Room Type Living Room

Can you tell us a bit more about your home? “We moved in between lockdowns, and so while we didn’t think we had much to do to the place, we found ourselves getting quite hooked on improving it while locked inside the house! We painted and decorated every room, replaced the bathroom floor and made a few tweaks in there; removed a void wall in the kitchen and replaced the units and worktop and did carpentry in the alcoves to create wardrobes and bookshelves. The house has good bones and had been well-loved beforehand, so nothing too drastic - just making it how we wanted it.”

How did you decide on fabrics for your curtains + blinds? “We wanted something that would lift up the room and bring warmth to big windows: wool in the bedroom and living room, and velvet in the study.”

Can you tell us where you go for interior ideas? Such as choosing the colour of your curtains. “I find Pinterest quite challenging as a lot of the photographs on there are from professional interior shoots and we don’t all live in homes that are large or well-lit! I have always had a strong sense of what I like and I believe that reflecting the tone and age of a property is key: when I’ve lived in 1950s and 60s flats, for instance, I’ve learned more heavily towards mid-century modern furniture. More important than any of that, though, is to plump for what you like and make you happy. Painting my kitchen pink makes me happy, having love-worn family objects around the place makes me happy, natural light makes me happy - I’ve replaced boarded-up fan lights in the past two places I’ve lived and it makes such a massive difference.”

Do you have a favourite space? “Depends on the time of day. We read and hang out in the lounge, but cooking, eating and hosting our friends in the kitchen is a huge part of our lives. I start and end the day in a bedroom that is purposefully calm and stripped-back in comparison to the rest of the house.”
