Explore the great outdoors, indoors!
Indoor plants, natural materials, tones and textures continue to flood our Instagram feeds, but what’s all the fuss about? We’ve teamed up with interior experts My Bespoke Room to find out more…
Let’s start with plants, not only do they look great, they have some hidden benefits too! House plants ability to absorb CO2 and release fresh oxygen, as well as filtering harmful chemicals, winner! Studies have proven that even a small plant can improve happiness and reduce stress.
But, before you inundate your home with potted plants, try exploring interesting ways to incorporate greenery - living walls are a creative way to bring the outdoors in, and reinvent your space. Using natural materials such as using raw wood and stone has been proven to have the same positive influences!
Maximising natural light is another great trick is to use. Sheer, lightweight materials such as linen or silk work wonders for window treatments.
Studies have proven that even seeing the colour green can help boost your mood, so why not incorporate that onto your curtains and blinds too.
The benefits of blurring the lines between outdoors and indoors are staggering, so we have teamed up with My Bespoke Room. We sat down with Lucy, Head of Design, to chat about all things green, including tips and tricks on how to transform your home into a green paradise.
There are so many ways to blur the lines between the indoors and outdoors. Plants are the easiest and cheapest way to update an interior, and as well as looking gorgeous, they provide oodles of health benefits, such as anxiety relief and purifying the air.
To create harmony between nature and your interior, connect with a feature window/door such as bi-folds or skylights. Also, bringing natural textures such as timber, exposed brick and concrete into the home will give an organic finish.
Nudes and neutrals will be everywhere if they aren’t already!
Over the last few years grey has dominated the world of interiors and now beige is fighting back. Apart from, we’re not calling it ‘beige.’ Sandy shades are all over the neutral palette and giving interiors an organic touch that seems to be hitting the home from all directions. Interiors are really highlighting and emphasising the relationship between humankind and nature, and nude, earthy tones are a stepping stone to help us do so.
Pair with black edged furniture and accessories for a more modern finish, or layer with rustic textures such as stonewashed linens, jute rugs, reclaimed wood and rattan furniture to give a more natural and unpolished look. In general, the whole colour palette has warmer, and blush and navy aren’t going anywhere - in fact, we’d go as far as saying they can now be perceived as neutrals too!
I was so inspired my visit to Marrakesh and loved the colours, water feature and planting (mainly cactus’!) at Jardin Majorelle I loved the amazing blue and yellow of the stunning villa as a backdrop to the amazing planting!
I also found the courtyards within the riads in Marrakech inspiring especially this one at Riad Yasmine (check out their Instagram page!), they get the perfect balance of that indoor outdoor space. I have recently been inspired by Lisa Dawson’s outdoor cinema area and have created our own at home. All you need is a blank wall or a large sheet or sail to hang, add some festoon lights, floor cushions and blankets for a fun outdoor cinema in the summer months.
Green rooms are great if you don’t have access to an outdoor space; they’re the gardens you never had. A room dedicated to indoor greenery is becoming increasingly more popular, especially in city homes. Filling a room with all things blooming and organic gives you a green oasis to escape to, a sanctuary to de-stress in and a place to retreat to, away from a 21st century fast-paced life.
