How to Hang Your Curtains: The Pinch Pleat Guide

A pinch pleat curtain describes a family of curtain headings that include double pleat, triple pleat, goblet or cartridge. All of these styles will arrive without their hooks attached allowing you to hang your curtains at the correct height. The hooks look similar to a lower case letter ‘H’ and have a sharp point at the top. Follow our simple guide below and you’ll have your pinch pleat curtains up in no time!

  1. Lay your curtain face down on a flat surface so you can insert the hooks.
  2. Slide the sharp point of the hook under the stitches in the back of the pleat until the point is hidden and only the hook end is visible. The point of each hook should sit level with the top of the curtain.
  3. Insert a few hooks and hang the curtain from the pole or track to check that you are happy with the length. When you’re happy with the length, insert a hook into every pleat, adding one hook to the outside edge of each curtain and one to the inside edge of one curtain. The other edge should be left free so that it can overlap the other curtain, ensuring there is no gap between the two.
  4. Thread the hooks on to the rings and thread the rings on to the pole, or connect the hooks onto the track, to hang your curtain.

Top tip: If using curtain rings, remember to put one ring on the outside edge of the bracket. This helps hide the bracket and keeps the curtain in place.
